I am happy to report that construction on the Southeast Regional Crisis Center began on June 15. This mental health facility will serve the 10 counties of SE Minnesota. The money for this facility came from State Legislature bonding. I am thankful for Senator David Senjem’s efforts to guide the bonding through the legislative process. In the past, the only way to deal with people suffering from a mental health crises was through law enforcement and jail. The jail is not an appropriate setting to assist people with a mental health issue. When the SERCC is completed next spring, Olmsted and the other 9 counties in SE Minnesota will have facility that is tailored to meet the needs of people who are experiencing a mental health crises. In collaboration with Mayo and Olmsted Medical Center, the SERCC will be staffed by mental health professionals who can assess, intervene, and stabilize clients in need of care. I supported this project and am looking forward to providing this much needed service to the people of Olmsted and surrounding counties.
