Olmsted County is collaborating with the Department of Natural Resources and the Minnesota Zoo to insure that the American Bison genetics are kept pure.  Olmsted County’s bison herd was found to be among the most genetically pure in the United States.  Consequently, in order to maintain the American Bison population throughout the U.S., some of our stock was shipped to other herds and we received stock from other places.  You can see the bison at the Oxbow Park; it is a great outing for kids of all ages.
