Updates

Oakridge Treatment Center

Olmsted County public health declared Oakridge Treatment Center a public nuisance and revoked their lodging license.  This effectively closed the treatment center.  The action occurred due to safety and well-being concerns of the individuals at the treatment center and neighboring residences.  This action was in response to a disproportionately high number of reported overdoses and other concerns.  It is Oakridge’s responsibility to relocate the clients.

2024 County Budget

The Budget for Olmsted County and the Housing and Redevelopment Authority (HRA) was approved on December 19.  The combined total is $371,867,176.  If you want more information and more detail, please visit the county’s budget webpage www.olmstedcounty.org/budget

Low-Income Senior Apartments

Minnesota Housing approved Olmsted’s finance applications to build Mayowood II Senior Apartments for low-income seniors.  This will be a project of about $13million.  It will have 36 apartments:  18 units will be dedicated to households at or below 50% of area median income and 18 units for seniors at or below 30% of area median income.  The projects will be developed and managed by Olmsted’s HRA.  Construction will begin in 2024.

2024 Board Meeting Schedule

The Board of Commissioners will continue to meet two times each month (except in July).  The first meeting of the month will be held at 10:30AM (previously it was a 10AM) and will be held on the first Tuesday of the month.  The second meeting will be held on the third Tuesday of the month at 6PM.  The times alternate to accommodate people who would like to attend.

No Snow for December 25, 2023

Those of you who dream about a “White Christmas” will probably be disappointed this year.  I have checked the long-term weather forecast and do not see any snow predicted for the end of December.  However, the snow will eventually come and Olmsted County is making preparations to keep the roads safe for travel.  Here is a fun video made that addresses the equipment, staffing, and preparation to get ready for the snow:Olmsted County crews are preparing for the winter season.  (This a copy of a video aired on KTTC)
