Olmsted County Housing and Redevelopment Authority Expands
The Housing and Redevelop Authority has accepted a friendly merger with the Community Housing Partnership properties. These are the Northgate Community apartments, Bandel Hills Townhomes and Byron Apartments. These properties provide affordable housing and will give the county greater flexibility in the affordable housing market. This was a good time for the merger to take place. The long-time director of the Community Housing Partnership, Judy Plank, is retiring and the County is stepping up its programs for affordable housing. The Homebuyer and the Home budgeting Course started by the Community Housing Partnership and later copied throughout the state will continue under the County Agency.
I supported the merger because it will continue to provide low cost housing and will increase the county’s ability to serve a portion of our population that deserves a decent place to live. Olmsted will still need to seek grants to fund homeowner and household budgeting counseling. A new Website will make it easier to access information on these and other classes offered by the Housing Authority. People can view the information at www.olmstedcountyhousing.com .
Composting Donations
To help defray the cost of composting yard waste, Donation boxes will be installed at the County composing site. People who bring material to be composted will be greeted for information asking for a $5 donation per trip. Larger donations from heavy/commercial users may be requested.
