Keeping Prescription Drugs Secure

It is always a good idea to keep your drugs safe and tamper proof.  The Sheriff’s department stated that people should secure their pharmaceuticals and drugs in a safe place away from children and house guests. The Sheriff’s department reports that one way kids and people addicted to opioids get drugs is from the medicine cabinets of relatives.

Opioids serve a good purpose when managed appropriately by person’s who suffer from pain.  However, opioids are also associated with addiction when not managed properly. Opioids are synthetic forms of heroin. Heroin is a narcotic.  Some of the different names for drugs that contain opioids are: Percocet, Vicodin, Duragesic, Sublimaze, Actiq, Dilaudin, Demerol, Oxycodone (OxyContin).

Drugs that contain derivatives of opiates are codeine and morphine. (Like Heroine, Codeine and Morphine come from Opium). Some common drugs that contain these substances are found in some cough syrups.  Some prescriptions may have a combination of aspirin and codeine or acetaminophen (Tylenol) and codeine.
