I have been very concerned about the increasing number of seniors who are on fixed incomes.  In order to understand the number of seniors who are financial stressed the county has started to study this issue.  In response to my inquiries about demographics and low income seniors (65+) here is some information:

• 4,358 Senior homeowners received property tax refunds.
• The refunds totaled $3,010,000.
• The average refund was $690.

In addition, I supported the Legislation effort to not allow Minnesota to tax Social Security income.  I am pleased that Minnesota has started to phase out the tax on social security.

Please know that I will continue to press for more information on senior income and its relationship to property taxes.
